Notes:
My Bongo player, Dave Pattman, had to go on tour with Cuban superstar Omara
Portuando at the time of recording this album and he just finished a rough sketch
of his dynamic song "LOS RUMBEROS..." which we had to decipher in
the rehearsal room without his attendance. The track turned out fantastically
and although we missed him, he left us with the replacement of legendary Columbian
percussionist RICARDO PLA (brother of UK based heavyweight Timbalero ROBERTO).
He was incredible. The album was a natural follow on to AFRO CUBA JAZZ and i
was very excited to re-record one of my old compositions 42nd and Broadway using
Vibrophonist ROGER BEAUJOLAIS on it. My band didnt understand why i wanted to
do it, but im more proud of this than any song ive written or recorded. It did
very well in the clubs as well.
Its sad to note that the beloved studio that we'd discovered - BLAH ST - closed down shortly after the recording. This was one of the most incredibly stocked studios of valve/analogue equipment in the world.
