Messin' Around

This is at the JAZZ CAFE every Saturday night. With a music policy of Rare Funk, Latin (Afro Cuban + Brasilian), Jazz and a little Soul and Boogie, there is not a club in London that can boast this music.The D.J.'s on rotation are myself, ADRIAN GIBSON and PHIL LEVENE with support from PERRY and ANDY of the JAZZCOTECH dancers.

The night is two-tiered. Firstly, the doors open at 7pm and admission gives you access to the whole night i.e. the club session that follows the band or artist. The bands or artists almost always correspond with the MESSIN' AROUND music policy so you can expect to see artists from LONNIE LISTON SMITH, to THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS or THE BLACKBYRDS to THE NEW COOL COLLECTIVE and JOYCE.

At 11pm there is admission to the club session which features the aforementioned music and is ALWAYS packed. At around 12.30, the country's hardest working Jazz Dance crew, JAZZCOTECH, take to the stage for their weekly performance of hardcore Jazz/Fusion dancing and the night wraps up at 2am.

I have heard this session described as a "cross between THE HI-HAT and DEEP FUNK" which I think is a perfect description. We don't play House, Hip Hop, Techno or Broken Beats and nor do we play the same old boring 'so-called' classics, and the dance floor remains packed all night.

There are three MESSIN' AROUND compilation albums on the major label UNIVERSAL.
