I made this track in response to the big House record called CARINA by T-COY. They called it Latin House but I thought "That's not Latin. I'll make a REAL Latin House track", so I did. This may be the first. Anyway, on the video shoot of STOP THIS CRAZY THING by COLDCUT (which I was in, and on the record), I played it to D.J. PATRICK FORGE (who was in attendance) and he told SIMON BOOTH about it. Simon was the bandleader of WORKING WEEK and one of the originals involved in the ACID JAZZ movement. SIMON and GILLES PETERSON co-produced this whole project, which I hated and still hate. ACID JAZZ as a music started as an 'in-joke' and ended up with people saying "What is Acid Jazz?" and I was saying "What happened to the Jazz Dance scene?" A lot of great things came out of this scene though, I must admit. Some great music.
This came out as two different 12" singles on URBAN and I washed my hands of it when the second 12" was re-mixed by T-COY (GRAEME PARK and MIKE PICKERING - the two main D.J.'s from 'THE HACIENDA') which was the final insult as I made it originally in answer to their inaccurate record. I met them in HOUSTON, TEXAS a couple of years later and told them I hated their mix as well!
Two nice notes to finish on, firstly, on the photo shoot for this album I met JAMES TAYLOR (J.T.Q.) and became great friends with him and secondly, also on the video shoot of COLDCUT'S STOP THIS CRAZY THING, I met LISA STANSFIELD'S two partners IAN DEVANEY and ANDY MORRIS who were miming in the video. A year later I was touring with LISA and have done most albums and every live date since.
