My first album on a new label. The label is very well respected worldwide and is based in the USA. I wanted my Latin Jazz to be taken seriously in the US market and I thought (and still think) that this is the way to do it. This album features our new Bass player Nico Gomez and has Alex Wilson guesting on 'The New Avengers'. Alex, of course, is a solo artist in his own right.
The day before the album was recorded, my trumpet player's wife had a baby, so Sid couldn't record it. We were lucky to have the excellent Shanti Paul Jayasinha step in. We re-recorded 'The New Avengers' as it was going down so well in our live set. We'd adapted it from Funk into the Cuban rhythm, Mozambique. This album was getting close to the ultimate sound that I imagined.
